Maggie’s Song

Well, I worked real hard right out in my yard
To keep my grass nice and green
But the chemicals I used on the grass abused
My body and made me mean.

I cleaned up my house as tidy as a mouse,
Used chemicals out the wazoo.
I made things shine up mighty fine
But I made myself real, real blue.

I left the poisons so the poisons could leave me
Went out and sat myself down under a tree.
Told the world I want to be loose and free
I left the poisons so the poisons could leave me.

Well, I wore new clothes with friends and foes
Had all the really fine stuff.
Had fancy new cars and hung out in bars
I never could seem to get enough.

But the poisons I ate decided my fate
As well as the ones I used.

So now I can tell that I've been through hell
From the world I've now been excused.

I left the poisons so the poisons could leave me
Went out and sat myself down under a tree.
Told the world I want to be loose and free
I left the poisons so the poisons could leave me.
