Peaceful Acceptance

Elizabeth Barrett Browning said, “Light tomorrow with today.” The thoughts we create today influence what our tomorrow will be like.

We can choose to be open to whatever happens tomorrow or we can program tomorrow with our expectations. Whatever we expect to happen tomorrow often happens, so we when we set up expectations, we get to deal with problems or blessings today as well as tomorrow.

Thus, it serves us well to be open to miracles, to allow our lives to unfold however they will. We are responsible for the footwork in our lives, for taking care of ourselves, for doing the jobs that are ours to do. We do not have to create extra work for ourselves by placing expectations on tomorrow. Let God guide and direct tomorrow.

No do we need to place expectations on other people. Our lives are so much simpler when we allow others to be exactly who they are rather than wishing they were different or trying to make them different. This is not to say we cannot ask to have our needs met by the people around us. Asking them to meet our needs is healthy. Expecting them to meet our needs is not.

We can bring peace into our lives by accepting whatever happens, not programming the future, and not placing our expectations on others. This is called ‘living in peaceful acceptance.’

May the God of love add a blessing to these humble words.
