Spiritual Growth

Do you believe that all pathways to God are sacred? Or do you believe that only the pathway you are on is sacred and appropriate?

Author Louis Hay said, “Each one of us decides to incarnate upon this planet at a particular point in time and space. We have chosen to come here to learn a particular lesson that will advance us upon our spiritual, evolutionary pathway.

Too many times we accept the pathway we have chosen and disparage other pathways. Putting ourselves up and others down somehow makes us feel better about the pathway we have chosen.

But if we truly believe that all pathways to God are sacred, that God is in charge and not mankind, then we must be willing to accept that each and every one of us is exactly where we need to be spiritually.

We must give up our need to see our pathway as the only ‘right’ pathway, and we must accept that the pathway each of us has chosen is the appropriate one for each of us at this stage of our spiritual development.

Mahatma Gandhi said, “The essence of all religions is one. Only their approaches are different.” A person’s concept of religion can be compared to the story of the 7-11 Convenience store that was robbed while there were ten customers inside.

When the police interviewed the customers, they received ten different eye-witness accounts of what had happened and what the robbers looked like.

Each of the ten people filtered what they saw through the lens of their own knowledge, perceptions, and viewpoints before describing the event.

Some of us base our religious inclinations on what we learned as children. Others of us base our belief systems on people who influenced us, fear that was instilled in us, or information we have read. Some of us base our beliefs on the information w have received from God within us.

When we connect with God’s inner direction and grow spiritually, what we believe spiritually goes well beyond religiosity and becomes spirituality. When we grow spiritually, we are much more able to believe that all pathways to God are sacred.

May the God of love add a blessing to these humble words.
