When things go wrong…

When things go wrong as they sometimes will,
When the road you're trudging seems all uphill,
When the funds are low and the debts are high,
And you want to smile but you have to sigh,
When care is pressing you down a bit
Rest if you must, but don't you quit.
Success is failure turned inside out,
The silver tint on the clouds of doubt,
And you can never tell how close you are,
It may be near when it seems afar.
So, stick to the fight when you're hardest hit
It's when things go wrong that you mustn't quit.

What do you do when things go wrong? When you start out your day and everything bad that could happen happens? When the plans you have carefully made go awry?

We all have days like that. So, the question is, what do you do when they occur? How do you handle your feelings about chaotic days? Do you become filled with anger and frustration? Do you ‘grin and bear it’ and stuff your frustrations? Here are a couple of suggestions to help you get through times like that.

First, it helps to recognize that life is full of lessons. When things go awry, it helps to look for the lesson in the circumstances. Once we get busy looking for the lesson and doing our best to learn it, we forget the frustration.

But sometimes our ‘lessons’ come so fast and furiously that we get overwhelmed. We forget our purpose in life and get angry at the lessons. We feel victimized by all the negative things that are happening in our lives right then.

Another tool we can use at times like this is the HU chant. HU (pronounced hugh or hue) is an ancient name for God, and singing HU is a love song to God. Take a deep breath and sing HU to the end of that breath. Then take another deep breath and do the same thing. Continue singing HU as it raises your vibrational level.

Sing HU to become happier and more secure in God’s love. Sing HU to open your heart to the uplifting presence of God’s love. Sing HU when you are frustrated, scared, lonely, or at a loss for knowing what to do next. It does not matter what your faith is, singing a love song to God can lift you into a higher level of consciousness.

When things go wrong, we cannot always change the ‘things’ but we can change ourselves and how we respond to them.

(You can read more about HU and hear a five minute HU song at http://www.eckankar.org/hu.html.)

May the God of Love add a blessing to these humble words.
